An Australian founded religious Congregation, the Missionary Sisters of Service
are women working in Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia
and Singapore.
The Missionary Sisters of Service are women called in the Spirit to share life
with one another and with people wherever they are. Sent to bring Good News into the
highways and byways, they commit themselves to pastoral service, enabling others, as
well as themselves, to be transformed by the power of the Gospel.
The Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of Service was founded in 1944 by Father
John C. Wallis, a priest of the Archdiocese of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Originally
from Yea in Victoria, he served as a Catholic priest in Tasmania for over 65 years.
The needs of people in isolated rural communities awoke in him a vision of a community
of women who would go out to those people. Their mission would be to enable people to
deepen their faith and know they were an integral part of the wider Church community
and supported in their commitment to their families.
The Missionary Sisters of Service invite you to come and share their story as they
have travelled the 'highways and byways' from 1944 to today.
