Cheryle Thomson, originally from Port Pirie, South Australia, has worked in Whyalla, South Australia for 15 years. She spent the first 12 years working in rural parishes on the Eyre Peninsula and also visited Coober Pedy and the isolated properties in outback South Australia. Her work involved the areas of religious education, visitation and adult education. In 2002 she became Pastoral Associate at St Teresa's Parish Whyalla. This ministry involves support and care of parishioners, contact with St Teresa's Primary School teachers, students and families (eg Sacramental Programs), Adult Education and Social Justice Issues. She visits Baxter Detention Centre most weeks and every second week she attends the Church Service. She has involved other parishioners in this important outreach to Refugees and is an active member of the local Rural Australians for Refugees group. She enjoys working in her home Diocese. In her spare time she enjoys watching AFL football - especially the Crows. |
